Man in custody after neighbour stabbed intervening in dispute
Police are seeking information following an alleged stabbing in Brocklehurst late last month.
RCMP were called just before 5 p.m. on Feb. 25 to a home in the 1800-block of Parkcrest Avenue for a report of an assault involving a weapon.
Police say a 27-year-old man became involved in a physical altercation with a family member inside the residence. A neighbour, described as being known to both parties, heard the disturbance and went to intervene. During the confrontation, the neighbour was allegedly stabbed.
“The suspect retreated to a trailer on the property and barricaded himself inside,” said Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet. “Following a short negotiation, the suspect surrendered to police and was taken into custody.”
The 55-year-old victim was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The accused remained in custody at press time and was expected to appear in court. Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2026-5751.
Kamloops RCMP Crime Reduction Unit nets arrest, seizes firearms in recent investigations
Recent proactive work by the Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Crime Reduction Unit has led to an arrest involving an alleged police impersonator and the seizure of nearly 20 firearms as part of two separate investigations aimed at reducing crime in the community.
On Jan. 29, officers conducted a late-night traffic stop and discovered a driver allegedly prohibited from driving. During the investigation, police located body armour displaying non-official “Police” and “RCMP” lettering. The white GMC truck involved was reportedly equipped with red and blue emergency lights and a siren. Weapons, body armour and the vehicle were seized, and a man in his 40s has been released pending anticipated charges. Police are asking anyone who may have encountered a man driving a white GMC truck while wearing partial police attire to contact investigators and reference file 2026-3010.
In a separate investigation that began with a Jan. 8 traffic stop, officers executed a search warrant on Feb. 3 in the 200-block of Tamarack Avenue. Police seized 19 firearms, a significant quantity of ammunition, illegal drugs and an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency. One man connected to the property was arrested prior to the warrant and later released, with charge recommendations anticipated.
Kamloops RCMP are encouraging anyone with information related to either investigation, or to criminal and gang-related activity in general, to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
Police seek witnesses to Sahali hit and run
A pedestrian was left with serious but non life threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle in a Sahali parking lot, and Kamloops Mounties still need the public’s help identifying the driver involved.
According to Kamloops RCMP, the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 6 in the 1200 block of Summit Drive.
Police say two pedestrians were walking through the parking lot when a light coloured SUV drove past them at close range. After what was described as a near miss, one of the pedestrians raised their hands in the air. The SUV then circled the lot a second time, again passing close by.
On the third pass, investigators allege the vehicle struck one of the pedestrians. During the encounter, the driver was reportedly shouting at the pair.
The injured person was taken for medical treatment. Their injuries are considered serious but not life threatening.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier said officers are looking for witnesses and any video from the area at the time of the incident.
Anyone who was in the area and may have dash camera or surveillance footage is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000. Anonymous tips can also be provided through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 and reference file 2026 3870.
