Samaritans help local woman

Dear Editor:

On June 30 at 7:30 p.m., I was in a car accident in the intersection of Tranquille Rd, Fortune Dr., and 8th St. I was alone and terrified when the two cars hit and my car was instantly full of smoke. I thought it was on fire.

Right away there was a girl banging on my windshield asking if I was okay. She and her friends got me out of the car and off the street. They helped me walk over to the steps in front of the Halloween store, spread out a blanket for me, and stayed with me until the fire department arrived.

I don’t know who they were. They had been sitting on the steps in front of the old store. I hope they read this because I need them to know how much I appreciated their help.

People are more than their condition

Dear Editor:

Today, I have just read Marg Archibald’s article: Is there a silver bullet for diabetes treatment.  

The article does address the issue of exercise and the part that  it plays in the management of diabetes — both type 2 as well as type 1.

I have had Diabetes for 67 years (type 1) and although I have that condition, I am not known by my condition, but by who I am — a person with diabetes.  To call a person with diabetes a diabetic is very old thinking, and does not properly describe who we are.  

Just a “small” issue, but one that means a huge amount to those of us living and managing our condition. And it does take work! Thank you.
