The group is bringing a fantastical new take on Renn Faires to the public
Faeries, magic, and storytelling is returning to the Barriere Fairgrounds from July 10–12 with Omens 2026 Renaissance Faire.
In its second year, the weekend long event offers both a market and immersive experience wrapped around whimsey and fantasy. Omens is run by the Amtgard Duchy of River Watch, a fast-paced Live Action Role Play and boffer combat society — which uses foam weapons to simulate melee battles — with chapters all over the world.
Those fantastic people you see in costume in the park on the weekends? Those are the ones!
What began as a passion project for their dedicated volunteer team has blossomed into a flagship event for the Amtgard community. Event organizer Koryn de Vrais explained that the question the organizers are always asking themselves is: “What can we do to bring more whimsey and storytelling?” And what they have come up with is a world of “lived-in” fantasy reality where the stories lead the experience, and the stakes are high.
The weekend promises a vast array of market vendors, food, amazing costumes, and even dance lessons hosted by Lindy in the Loops with the musical stylings of the Sycamore String Quartet. There is even a separate ticketed Masquerade Ball! And if you want to get deep into the adventure, the weekend is also full of questing.
At the heart of the story over the weekend the “evil zombie plant monster queen”, Meri D Gold, has returned. This villain, having been vanquished a few years ago is now back despite their soul being destroyed in their last fight. The new adventure serves as the catalyst for the quests involving the four Fae courts and the race to rule the region. And everyone is invited.
De Vries said the team was blown away by public response last year, which has fueled the expansion of offerings for 2026. Whether you are a warrior, a fae, or just a wandering diplomat, the faire is bound to have something that will tickle your imagination.
Because this event is 100% volunteer-run, the community relies on participation to keep the magic alive. And ticket sales. As de Vries puts it, “If you want to be sure, buy early!” And if you’re coming out dressing up is encouraged but not necessary. Stay hydrated! July can be incredibly hot, so bring your reusable water bottle and utilize the water fill stations. Check out the vendors and the food trucks. And enjoy all the free activities within the gates.
You can find out more about Omens and the local chapter of Amtgard on their website or just head on over to Riverside Park on any given Saturday and look for the green faerie and her crew! You might just find some like-minded folks, or at the very least a great adventure.
