Kamloops CIBC Run for the Cure returns to Riverside Park

The Canadian Cancer Society is bringing the Kamloops CIBC Run for the Cure back to Riverside Park on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025.

From 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., participants will gather at 100 Lorne Street to walk or run in support of breast cancer research, treatment, and community programs.

“We have a Little Hope Lounge put on by Portfolio Interiors, and that’s for all of our participants of hope,” Ben Schmidt, director of community and corporate engagement said.

“They are people who have lived with or are living with breast cancer.”

The event offers two options, a 1-kilometre route and a 5-kilometre route, making it accessible for participants of all ages and fitness levels.

Whether running or walking, every step contributes to providing support and hope to those living with breast cancer.

“One of the best things is just the support that the Canadian Cancer Society does for people living with cancer,” Schmidt said.

Funds raised from the Run for the Cure help in several significant ways.

“This year we’ve already reached our goal for people to attend,” Schmidt said. “So the next week is all bonus attendees.”

Donations support patients traveling to their breast cancer treatments, provide access to peer support programs, and make wigs, headwear, and breast prostheses available to thousands of people each year.

The event also contributes to Canada’s largest charitable funder of cancer research, ensuring progress continues in the fight against the disease.

Participants can register by donating $45 or by raising $150 or more in pledges. The campaign’s message is clear, the end of the run marks the beginning of new hope for Canadians impacted by breast cancer.

“Everybody there has felt the same pain and scare, and we get to laugh and have fun together. That’s one thing I like the most about it,” Schmidt said.

The day begins at 8:30 a.m. with T-shirt pickup and event opening. At 9:15 a.m., opening ceremonies will set the tone for the morning before the run and walk officially start at 10 a.m.

By joining the Kamloops CIBC Run for the Cure, the community can make a direct impact on the lives of Canadians affected by breast cancer.

Each registration and donation helps bring vital support, resources, and research funding closer to those who need it most.

“I want those affected to know they’re not alone. When they come on the run, they’re with people that have been there and know what they’re going through,” he said.
