Kamloops welcomes the magic of the season with new Christmas Market

Kamloops is about to sparkle a little brighter this holiday season. From Nov. 21–30, the Kamloops Christmas Market will transform the downtown core into a winter wonderland, inviting visitors to shop, stroll, and soak up the spirit of the season.

The ten-day event promises an authentic holiday experience, featuring local artisans, handcrafted goods, festive food, and warm beverages, all set against the glow of twinkling lights.

“We all came together with Tourism Kamloops, the City of Kamloops, the Kamloops Sports Council, and the Downtown Business Association to brainstorm ideas,” Duncan Olthius, Kamloops Sports Council executive director, said. “We decided on creating a Christmas market.”

It’s designed as a celebration of community and creativity, giving shoppers the chance to discover one-of-a-kind gifts while supporting small businesses from across the region.

Visitors can expect dozens of vendor booths offering everything from handmade ornaments and home décor to baked goods, jewellery, and cozy winter wear.

“There’ll be some beautiful light displays for people to take photos in front of, and Santa will be joining us down there too,” Olthius said.

Alongside the shopping, organizers are planning family-friendly entertainment, live music, and photo-ready displays to make the market a true seasonal destination.

The Christmas Market also hopes to draw both residents and visitors downtown, boosting local tourism during one of the city’s most festive times of year.

“We want this to become a yearly event that helps Kamloops with economic impact during the winter months.” Olthius said.

With its combination of holiday tradition and local craftsmanship, the event reflects Kamloops’ growing interest for experiences that bring people together in celebration.

The team has been working under tight timelines since deciding to move forward in late spring.

“Our biggest challenge has been the time crunch,” Olthius said. “We decided to move forward back in late spring, so bringing everything together in a short period has been tricky.”

The market will run daily from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., offering plenty of time to browse after work or enjoy an evening out.

Parking, food trucks, and outdoor heating areas will help make the experience comfortable even on cold November nights.

“If you want to experience a traditional European-style Christmas market without travelling to Vancouver or out east, this is the best place for it. We’re aiming to be a regional Christmas market for the Interior of B.C,” Olthius said.

Interested vendors still have the time to apply for a spot on this inaugural market. All applications must go through the event website.

Whether you’re on the hunt for the perfect handmade gift or simply looking to enjoy a festive evening with friends and family, the Kamloops Christmas Market is shaping up to be a highlight of the holiday season.
