In the past few months, rumours have been swirling of a return of Kamloops’ beloved gun slinging trout, Kami the Fish, in official mascot form. But is there truth to the talk? We reached out to the Kamloops & District Chamber of Commerce to find out.
“I would say there is a lot of interest in Kami the Fish,” said Acacia Pangilinan, Executive Director of the Kamloops & District Chamber of Commerce. “It was 2019 when the Chamber decided to bring back Kami the Fish. We started with socks. Those sold out.”
“At this point, it’s too early to say. We’ve asked the Chamber board to strike up a task force to determine next steps. There has been a lot of demand,” said Pangilinan.
“People have been telling me for a while they want a mascot.”
Back in March, the Kamloops Blazers had a rebranded, limited edition “fighting trout” jersey created for a hockey game. The fighting trout jersey featured Kami, but instead of a gun, Kami was armed with a hockey stick. Clearly, Kami is a fish with many talents.
We asked Pangilinan what it would take to solidify Kami’s return in mascot form. “Send us a message or an email if you want to see Kami. Send us a message on social media. Or email us at [email protected] and we will take requests under consideration.”
